Free education to improve healthcare safety and quality

December 31, 2009

A particular honour and privilege of my work has been to spend time co-creating with fabulous people in superb organisations and companies.

Right up at the top of this list of great experiences has been working with the Institute of Healthcare Improvement in Boston to create the world’s first “open” school to improve quality and safety of healthcare. Providing the highest quality education, training and peer-support to all those working and studying in healthcare across the planet would be huge enough, but the IHI OpenSchool does this completely free of charge.

It has been a great personal satisfaction to bring my experience of building online communities and internet-based medical education and collaboration to the IHI, and to see this become part of a global service of such importance and value. Thank you to my friends in Boston for making me so welcome, and for taking the ideas of “the limey” and turning them into something great.
